I have recently taken a liking to baking. It's fun, and you get a reward after too! In my house, we usually don't have baked goods unless their for a party or for someone else. My brother and I seemed to have pick up on that. I was making sugar cookies for a surprise going away party the other day.
I was doing my thing in the kitchen, rolling dough, taking the baked cookies out of the oven, normal cookie baking steps, when my brother comes in and sees cookies on the cooling rack. He, obviously, proceeds to ask me if he can have one. My response? No. They aren't for us. He, of course, takes offense and gets upset, going on about how they're never for us. Always for someone else. I felt bad, so I told him I would make a batch for him and me because, to make a long story short my dad ate the extras and he didn't get any.
So today I am in the kitchen, rolling balls of dough, putting them on the tray to put into the oven and for the magic to work and turn them into delicious cookies! My dad was standing by, doing whatever, and he goes, looking at the dough balls "Those will turn into those?" Gesturing at some finished cookies, "You don't have to flatten them?"
I didn't even have a witty response to that. All I could do was gape at him. I finally came enough out of my shock to talk and said "You seriously just asked me that question? Have you ever seen anyone baking cookies??? FAIL!!!" He just snickered and walked away. Classic.
We make a lot of "stupid" comments in my house. A LOT. And my father does not let them go. We still go on about stuff that happened YEARS ago. And it's mostly him making fun of the rest of us because, I must admit, he's a pretty smart man! He has common sense. Unlike the rest of us. So, if you think I won't jump for the sky at this opportunity, you are DEAD wrong! I can't wait to tell everyone (hence why I am posting this on the internet!). It will be out for EVERYONE to read.
You're probably thinking "Jeez. Have a little compassion!" Well. He holds too much embarassing stuff over all of us, so my thoughts are "Hey, one stupid little thing won't hurt." A boss (probably, hopefully) won't fire him for seeing this. Can you imagine that? (in a deep man boss voice) "Hey. You didn't know that cookies start out in dough balls and they flatten out? You're fired from this job that has absolutely nothing to do with baking!!!" Seriously.
Okay. So. What was the morale of this story?
Just kidding. There is no morale. Except maybe know that cookies start out in dough balls. Sure. Okay that works! Have fun baking!!
